To form this Aztec figure, different pieces of stone were put together to create a mosaic mask.
This piece is hand carved by Mexican artisans, the mask is on a rectangular surface made of obsidian stone.
The mask is lightweight, creating stability on a smooth surface, preventing it from wobbling from side to side.
This Mexican mask represents an important element in the Mexican pre-Hispanic culture, they were one of the things that accompanied people to the other world.
The stone mask was used as a funeral mask, that is to say that when the corpses were buried in the sacred precincts, a mask and other stone ornaments were placed on them, commonly
jade, malachite, obsidian.
