The Huicholes or Wixárikas are an indigenous community living in the central west of Mexico in the Sierra Madre Occidental, mainly in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, as well as some areas of Durango, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca. Their art is deeply rooted in mystical experiences associated with hikuri or peyote (Lophophora williamsii), resulting in the vibrant colors and intricate patterns seen in Wixárika art.
