The Huicholes or Wixárikas are an indigenous community that lives in the western center of the country of Mexico in the Sierra Madre Occidental, mainly in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, as well as in some areas of Durango, Zacatecas and Oaxaca. It is an art of the Mexican people
This is one of the few artistic processes in the world whose creation is invariably linked to a mystical sense in indigenous art: the spirit as the raw material of art, and vice versa. Any piece in this group is based on experiences associated with hikuri or peyote (Lophophora williamsii). From this interaction arise those colors and shapes that we observe in Wixárika art.
