The Huicholes or Wixárikas are an indigenous community living in the central west of Mexico in the Sierra Madre Occidental, primarily in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, as well as some areas of Durango, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca. Their art is deeply connected to their spirituality, with creations inspired by experiences associated with hikuri or peyote (Lophophora williamsii). These experiences give rise to the vivid colors and intricate patterns seen in Wixárika art.
