“ Information about the painting 🖼️ “
This piece is an exact replica of the ball game of the pre-Columbian Mayan era, featuring the Mayan calendar and the snake, a symbol of health and fortune.
The ball game, better known as “Pokolpok” by the Mayans, is considered an antecedent of soccer, being one of the oldest team sports in the world.
This game involved forming two teams of approximately 7 members each, with the main objective being to pass the ball through the hoops that made up the court. The ball was allowed to be manipulated only by the hips, shoulders, and elbows, according to the rules of the game.
Interestingly, the ball used in the game was crafted by the players themselves, using natural ingredients from a tree, which they transformed into rubber.
