Mexican painting on bark paper is an ancient tradition in Mexico that has been part of its culture since the Aztec era.

AMATE paper is a vegetable support whose origin dates back to the pre-Hispanic era of Mesoamerica. It is made from the inside of the bark of trees, the manufacturing process is quite different from that used for the production of ordinary paper. It is a kind of non-spun or non-woven fabric or textile. The amate is made in an artisanal way, grinding the bark of the white and red jonotes.
