The Huicholes or Wixárikas are an indigenous community from the western center of Mexico, living in the Sierra Madre Occidental, primarily in Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca. Their art is deeply intertwined with their spirituality, with creations inspired by experiences associated with hikuri or peyote (Lophophora williamsii). These experiences give rise to the vivid colors and intricate patterns seen in Wixárika art.
