The Huicholes or Wixárikas are an indigenous community residing in the western center of Mexico, predominantly in the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, and some areas of Durango, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca. Wixárika art is a vibrant expression of this community’s mystical experiences, often associated with the hikuri or peyote (Lophophora williamsii). The intricate colors and shapes that adorn this sculpture arise from these spiritual interactions.
